Climate hackathin 2026 at falcons plaza
Reflections on building climate tech in 48 hours with a team of strangers
Community Design
Climate Hackathon 2026
48 hours. One problem. Ten teams.
The brief: design a product that meaningfully reduces carbon footprint for everyday Kenyan households.
The Idea
We landed on a community solar-sharing platform — neighbours pooling solar capacity and trading excess energy on a local micro-grid.
What We Built
A React Native prototype with a dashboard showing:
- Real-time energy production vs consumption
- Neighbour-to-neighbour energy trading
- Monthly savings visualisation
What I Learned
Hackathons teach you to make decisions fast and commit to them. We scrapped two ideas in the first four hours. The third one shipped.
