Note to younger self

Things I wish someone had told me when I started in tech

Note to Younger Self

If I could go back to the first day I opened a code editor, here's what I'd say.

Learn the fundamentals obsessively

Frameworks come and go. The fundamentals — data structures, algorithms, how computers actually work — those stay. Invest there first.

Ship ugly things

Your first ten projects will be embarrassing. Ship them anyway. The embarrassment is the tuition.

Design and engineering are the same discipline

The best engineers think about user experience. The best designers understand systems. Don't silo yourself.

Nairobi is not behind

The tech ecosystem here is building real things for real people. You don't need to move to participate in something meaningful.
